Tips for Avoiding Oral Disease

Posted .

If you want a strong and healthy smile, then you need to do all you can to prevent oral diseases. Oral disease, like cavities, gum disease and oral cancer, can destroy your oral health and severely harm your teeth and gums. Our dentist, Dr. Tre' DeFelice, strongly encourages you to keep these diseases at bay. You can do so by doing the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Oral hygiene can help you remove the harmful substances that cause oral diseases, so make sure to brush twice a day, floss and rinse once a day and visit your dentist every six months for a routine dental cleaning and exam.

-Watch what you eat: There are many foods that can give you the nutrients you need to prevent gum disease and other dental issues, like protein, fruits, vegetables and dairy products, so do your best to eat those foods and stay away from sugary, acidic and high-carbohydrate foods.

-Avoid tobacco products: Tobacco is very dangerous for the smile, especially because it attacks the teeth and gums, promotes cavities and gum disease, increases your risk of oral cancer and even affects your entire body. It’s best to avoid any product that contains tobacco.
